COURSE DESCRIPTION 

This webinar is designed to help dental assistants understand that periodontal disease starts with a biofilm-based infection that creates a wound that, in turn, induces the inflammatory cascade responsible for the disease. This wound must be taken seriously and treated at the earliest possible stages. The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions 2018 defines 4 levels of periodontal health and includes staging and grading system for periodontitis as well as classification of peri-implant disease. This along with recent changes in CDT codes create the necessity for an update. This webinar provides a framework to meet the individualized needs of the patient.

Patti DiGangi, RDH, BS
Patti believes dentistry is no longer just about fixing teeth; dentistry is oral medicine. As a navigator and long-time clinician, she guides audiences through the rough waters of coding. Her efforts have assisted thousands of professionals to code more accurately and efficiently. In fact, the American Dental Association recognized her expertise by inviting her to write a chapter in its CDT 2017 Companion book and again for CDT 2018 Companion. Patti holds publishing and speaking licenses with ADA for Current Dental Ter­minology©2019. Patti shares her insights and expertise through a book series called DentalCodeology–books of easily digestible stories about patients we see every day. Patti offers for continued learning and growth through her DentalCodeology Insiders group and DentalCodeology Insurance Navigator Method online insurance and coding courses accepted for PACE AGD CE credit.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, the dental professional should be able to: 

1. Learn and review the ADPIED process of care to identify the causative and influencing factors that can be reduced, eliminated, or prevented.
2. Identify the difference between treatment case types and disease classifications.
3. Determine the most accurate risk assessment, diagnosis and treatment codes.
4. Define the difference between D1110, D4346 and D4910.
