Dental Appliances for Sleep Apnea: Pros and Cons of Dental Devices (AGD 730)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This live webinar is designed to help dental assistants by providing an overview of what is obstructive sleep apnea, how to identify symptoms, diagnose, and treat with oral appliance devices. 

PRINCIPAL FACULTY

John Nadeau, Vice-President of Sleep Group Solutions
John Nadeau, a native of Gorham, Maine, has been actively involved in the dental sleep medicine community since 2002. John is currently serving as Vice President of Sleep Group Solutions in Hollywood, FL. An expert on the Eccovision Acoustic Diagnostic Imaging System, he has developed protocols for its use in a variety of clinical settings. John has personally trained over two hundred dental practices on how to integrate sleep apnea treatment into their daily activities, some of these offices have gone on to become some of the most successful sleep disorders dentistry practices in North America. With extensive experience speaking alongside industry leaders in Orthodontics, TMD and Dental Sleep Medicine John’s material is always well received. 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, the dental professional should be able to: 

1. Describe sleep disordered breathing and what is obstructive sleep apnea.
2. Describe the signs/symptoms and clinical consequences that come from the disease.
3. Identify dental red flags that may indicate an underlying airway problem.
4. Outline the process for screening and diagnosis that must take place prior to any dental treatment.
5. Review oral appliance options for treating OSA.
6. Describe side effects that can occur with appliance therapy.
