Recognizing the importance of dental assistants to the future of dentistry, the Pacific Dental Services® (PDS®) Foundation created the Dr. Carolyn Ghazal Dental Assistant Scholarship to provide DA students with need-based financial aid, mentorship, and on the job training. Named after Dr. Carolyn Ghazal, Chair of Associate Dentist Development at PDS University™ –Institute of Dentistry, the scholarship aims to mold the next generation of passionate, servant-hearted, dental assistant leaders.
Last year fifty-five dental assistant students were awarded the PDS Foundation Scholarship, and another 27 scholarships have been awarded during the first two quarters of 2022. The most common phrase shared by recipients is “I never thought that it would be me. I’ve never won anything before.” The PDS Foundation scholarship committee encourages students to apply for this opportunity to receive up to $5,000 towards their dental assistant education as scholarships are awarded to students across the country from various dental assistant programs every quarter.
Recent scholarship recipient and dental assisting student in Tennessee, Claudia Young shared her feelings after receiving the scholarship.
"Words can't explain how extremely thrilled and grateful I am to be one of the recipients of this scholarship. This opportunity means a lot to me as I move forward with my dental career. I am still in disbelief,” said Young.
For many students dental assisting school can be very costly and many are unable to work while pursuing their education, so there are often financial barriers with finishing school. Through this scholarship the PDS Foundation is thrilled to be able to assist students in achieving their dreams and mold the next generation of dental assistant leaders.
If you are a dental assistant student or know a current student pursing the career, make sure to spread the word that August 1st is the next deadline to submit scholarship applications. Apply today at https://www.pdsfoundation.org/programs/scholarships/.More Info
