Resist Tooth Decay: Healthy Smiles Through Remineralization (AGD 250)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This webinar is designed to help dental assistants be aware of the need to be alert and responsive to the causes of tooth decay to help achieve the overall goal of preventative dentistry. This webinar will provide an overview of the risk factors for dental caries and treatments to help promote remineralization. The webinar will also address the ADA recommendations for the use of professionally applied topical fluorides.

PRINCIPAL FACULTY

Kari Hiatt, CDA, EFDA, EFODA, MS
Kari Hiatt has worked as a Dental Assistant since 2003. She is EFDA and EFODA certified and has maintained her CDA for the past ten years. She earned a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership in Policy from Portland State University. Kari is currently a Dental Assistant Instructor at Clackamas Community College in Oregon and is devoted to educating future dental assistants.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, the dental professional should be able to: 

1. Describe demineralization and the decay process.
2. Identify the risk factors for tooth decay.
3. Discuss how to assess risk factors for decay.
4. Name and discuss the four categories of remineralizing agents.
5. Recognize the ADA’s clinical recommendations for professional topical fluoride use for caries prevention.
