The Use of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) for Dental Caries Management in Pediatric Patients (AGD 430)

This live webinar is APPROVED FOR ONE (1) CE CREDIT and is designed to provide an overview for the dental assistant as to the evolution of silver diamine fluoride therapy, how to effectively use silver diamine fluoride (SDF) on their pediatric patients to help reduce caries, and how to appropriately bill for its use.

Natalie Kaweckyj is part of the management team and licensed dental assistant for a nonprofit dental clinic targeting the underserved children of Minnesota. She is also a freelance writer, having written over 200 articles and courses, and loves to lecture nationally and internationally on many different dental topics for the dental team.

Natalie graduated from the CODA-approved dental assisting program at ConCorde Career Institute and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology from Metropolitan State University.  She has worked clinically, administratively and academically in the dental assisting profession. 

She served on the ADAA Board of Trustees from 2002-2012, and was the ADAA President in 2010-2011; and again 2017-2018.  Natalie is currently serving as the 2018-2020 PDAEF President and is finishing her term as 2018-2020 ADAA Immediate Past President.  In addition to her association duties, Natalie is very involved with the Minnesota state board of dentistry as well as with the state legislature in the expansion of the dental assisting profession and several other organizations in promoting the dental profession.

5. Outline the indications and contraindications for the use of SDF.
6. Outline the advantages and disadvantages of SDF.
7. Explain the importance of informed consent when using SDF.
8. Discuss the evidence based data that supports the use of SDF.
9. Describe how to use SDF with pediatric patients.
10. Describe how to use SDF with SMART Restorations.
11. Discuss how to bill for SDF.
