Managing Acute Dental Pain: Opioid Analgesics and Their Impact on the Dental Community (AGD 340)

This webinar is designed to help dental assistants understand the overall impact of opioids, their use, abuse, and their impact on the dental community.
Laura Meyer-Junco, PharmD, BCPS, CPE
Laura Meyer-Junco is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Pharmacist at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy, Rockford campus. Dr. Meyer-Junco received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University College of Pharmacy and also graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She completed a first year Pharmacy Practice residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York as well as a second year Geriatric Specialty residency at the Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Meyer-Junco is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist, a certified pain educator, and practices primarily in hospital-based geriatrics and palliative care as well as home-based hospice care.
Upon completion of this course, the dental professional should be able to:
1. Differentiate between opioid abuse and addiction and recognize associated behaviors and risk factors that require intervention.
2. Review current opioid prescribing guidelines and applicability to dental practices.
3. Identify non-opioid agents for the management of pain.
