Dr. James R. Winkler - "Periodontal Diseases and Systemic Health: What is the real relationship?" (7 pm - 8 pm) A relationship between oral and systemic disease has been a part of the medical and dental literature for many years. Diabetes, osteoporosis, menopause, smoking, stress, cardiovascular disease, pregnancy, HIV, and a variety of other medical conditions may be related to oral and periodontal diseases. The dental management of these patients frequently requires co-therapy by the medical and dental professions. This course will address the potential cause-and- effect relationships between oral and systemic health and discuss the ethical and professional responsibility dental professionals have to educate the public, medical colleagues, government policy-makers, and insurance companies about the importance of medically-necessary dental care.

Dr. Rob Wood - "Periodontal Disease, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Maintenance in the General Dentist's Office" (8 pm - 9 pm) Dr. Wood will lead a discussion about how to manage periodontal disease in private. He will help you understand how to provide ideal treatment for these patients in your office. His goal is to help you make your practice more profitable, while making sure that patients aren't subject to supervised neglect. Everybody has heard the statistic about the increase in lawsuits based on undiagnosed periodontitis. He will discuss how to prevent this from becoming an issue in your practice by saying a few simple words

Dr. James Keddington - "See the End from the Beginning: Keys to Treatment Planning and Diagnosis with a Real Restorative Dentistry Update" (7 pm - 8 pm) With advancements in technology, improved techniques and procedure options, better bonding and materials, are we keeping up? Are we practicing evidenced-based dentistry? Are we able to maintain a high standard of care? What does our extended dental team look like? With this course we will discuss the essentials of overall patient care, a review of adhesive dentistry direct and indirect (our bread and butter), our role as the quarterback of an amazing dental team, and an emphasis on surgical and periodontal care, with an emphasis on understanding why we do what we do. We will evaluate our current treatment protocol against the literature and implement the findings and report on their clinical significance.
